Walgett Shire Council - Bulldust to Bitumen Festival

The annual Bulldust to Bitumen Festival is held by Walgett Shire Council (WSC), located in rural NSW. Over the course of 10 days in August, the community-centred celebration features fun events including markets, a street parade, the Walgett Shire rodeo, live music performances, and free activities for children.

Since 2016, bellette has had the pleasure of collaborating with WSC to produce a commercial for the festival advertised in collaboration with local TV stations. The event is promoted to both locals and tourists, encouraging all to join in. For Bulldust to Bitumen 2018, the festival teamed up with the Walgett Charity Bushman’s Carnival to create an even bigger and livelier occasion

Working closely with WSC we produced an ad embodying the strong community feel and family friendly nature of the festivities. We wanted to convey the fun, excitement and inclusivity of this welcoming small Aussie region.

Due to the location of our client and tight turnaround time for the project deadlines, we utilise materials direct from WSC to develop a contemporary look and feel through the use of vibrant colours, quirky fonts and a creative ‘community bulletin board’ style backdrop.

Being situated in a regional Australia ourselves, we love that we’ve been able to offer support to the Shire and contribute to the festival’s success and high participation rates over time. Rural areas have become adept at innovation and adaptation as population ebbs and flows, and Walgett is no exception.
